The county was formed in 1792 by Thomas Kenedy.

The land for the couny was take form Linclon, Mercer, and Madison.  The county has given the state three goveners, and one active state repersenitive.

Start of the Civil War

Dec 20, 1860 - South Carolina secedes from the Union. Followed within two months by Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas.

 
Decades of growing strife between North and South erupted in civil war on April 12, 1861, when Confederate artillery opened fire on this Federal fort in Charleston Harbor. Fort Sumter surrendered 34 hours later. Union forces would try for nearly four years to take it back. 
July 21, 1861 - The Union Army under Gen. Irvin McDowell suffers a defeat at Bull Run 25 miles southwest of Washington. Confederate Gen. Thomas J. Jackson earns the nickname "Stonewall," as his brigade resists Union attacks. Union troops fall back to Washington. President Lincoln realizes the war will be long. "It's damned bad," he comments.
 
October 8th 1862- CSA council of war at Bryantsville
 
October 14th, 1862- One week after the Battle of Perryville the souther army, and northern army came to a small town in Kentucky calld Lancaster.  From the autobiagraphy of Judge Sandaford,  Gen.  John Hunt Morgan came in to his farm to feed his troops and animals.  After a short time union cannons unleashd on the small group cav. and infantry.  For about half of a day southern and northern forces fierd upon each other.  A Confederate soilder by the name of M. Branagan was wounded.
